About Black Autistic and Proud

Black Autistic and Proud exists because many of us spend our lives feeling like we're trying to solve a puzzle without ever being given the picture on the box.

For a long time, I knew something about me was different, but I didn't have the language for it. I just knew that life felt heavier, social rules felt confusing, and being myself often came with consequences. Like many Black autistic adults, I learned how to mask, code-switch, push through exhaustion, and blame myself for struggles that were never a personal failure.

This space was created for people who recognize themselves in that experience.

Black Autistic and Proud is for Black autistic adults who are diagnosed, self-diagnosed, or still figuring things out. It's for those who are learning how to understand themselves with compassion instead of judgment. It's a place to learn, reflect, and grow at your own pace… without having to prove anything to anyone.

Right now, this is a one-person effort. But the vision is bigger than me. I see this becoming a space shaped by many Black autistic voices, stories, and perspectives… because none of us should have to navigate this journey alone.

Welcome from the Founder

"Never be limited by other people's limited imaginations."

This quote, by Dr. Mae Jemison, the first Black woman to travel in space, reminds us to reject the constraints others may knowingly or unknowingly place on our dreams, identities, and potential.

It's a call to soar beyond doubts and limitations others place on us, to fully embrace who we are, and to define our own path.

I created Black Autistic and Proud because I know how hard it can be to navigate autism, mental health, and self-acceptance, especially as a late-diagnosed Black autistic person.

This space exists to inspire, support, and uplift those searching for answers, understanding, and community.

It's never too late to discover more about yourself and live as your most authentic self.

There are NO LIMITS to who you are and what you're capable of achieving!

BA&P is here to support you and I wholeheartedly believe in you!

Sending you infinite love!

Thank you for visiting,

Solei

About Solei

I'm a late-diagnosed Black autistic adult (AuDHD) who spent decades trying to understand why everyday life felt so much harder than it seemed to be for everyone else.

For years, I was misdiagnosed, misunderstood, and quietly carrying the weight of feeling "off" without knowing why. Learning that I'm autistic didn't fix everything, but it gave me clarity, validation, and permission to stop trying to force myself into masks and spaces that never fit.

I built Black Autistic and Proud because I couldn't find what I needed when I was searching for answers. I needed something that centered Black autistic adults, honored self-diagnosis, and spoke honestly about what it's like to discover yourself later in life.

This work comes from lived experience. It comes from navigating autism while Black, from parenting while autistic, from learning how to rest without guilt, and from slowly unlearning the belief that struggle means failure.

If you're here, I hope this space feels grounding. I hope it helps you feel seen. And I hope it reminds you that there is nothing wrong with you. You are learning, becoming, and growing in your own time.

My Purpose

Black Autistic and Proud exists to help Black autistic adults better understand themselves, feel proud of who they are, and access support that actually reflects their lived experiences.

This is a space for learning, reflection, and connection. A space that values diagnosed, self-diagnosed, and questioning individuals equally. A space where curiosity is welcome and self-discovery is respected.

What I'm Working Toward

  • Accessible resources for Black autistic adults at every stage of self-discovery
  • Visibility and amplification of Black autistic voices across platforms
  • Community-centered learning that prioritizes clarity, compassion, and care
  • Education and awareness around autism and mental health in the Black community

This work is ongoing. It's allowed to evolve. And it's being built with intention.
